Design and manufacturing details:
A set of two tools have been developed for the manufacture of wheels for trucks/ busses of size 5.5X16.
The intricate tooling shown here forms the wheel rim by the application of hydraulic force. Hardened and tempered inclined planes or wedges actuate axially to move 12 tool steel segments radially that form a profile on a steel blank. This happens while the steel blank is mounted on a hardened and tempered tool steel rotating mandrel. An ejector system then removes the formed wheel off the mandrel. Tolerances and fits have been maintained for reliability in service.
